pass the imaginary line of the Equator near the town of
Nanyuki. Samburu is characterised by a semi-desert region
less popular and dominated by dry bush. It is one of the

of birds such as kingfishers, pelicans, spoonbills, storks,
and not forgetting the pink flamingo colonies. It is in this
park that I have taken my best photos of herons and
leopards.
Day 7 : Depart Masaļ Mara Dinner and overnight FB at a lodge
The Masaļ Mara, reserve (1510 km2), named after the river
Mara that crosses the park, and the Masai people who live in
the region, is definitely the most famous reserve in Kenya.
It is one of the places where you can see the "Big Five"

500 species of bird have been indexed in this park, the
natural extension of the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro crater.
The protected Ngorongoro region: 180 km west of Arusha. 8
288 km². The crater, the heart of the area, is a fantastic
place and is very rare! One of the wonders of nature. All
large mammals can be found here.
The park is located between the Serengeti and Lake Manyara
(see map). It is home to the famous volcanic Ngorongoro
crater which is the largest unbroken caldera in the world.
The crater (610 metres deep and 260 km squared) is a
microcosm of East African scenery and game and is usually
visited on the way back from the Serengeti to Arusha. Scenic
grandeur and stunning views are the hallmark of this wonder
of the world. All the lodges are built high on the crater
rim and afford amazing views over and into the crater - the
perfect setting for a well deserved sundowner.
There are 25,000 larger animals within the crater itself,
mostly Zebra and wildebeest. However, this is undoubtedly
the best place to see black rhino in Tanzania as well as
prides of lion that include the magnificent black-maned
males. There are lots of colourful flamingoes and a variety
of other water birds around the soda lake on the crater
floor. More than a 100 species of bird not found in the
Serengeti have been found in the crater. Other game:
leopard, cheetah, hyena, elephants, warthog, impala,
buffalo, hartebeest, eland and lots of other members of the
antelope family and smaller mammals of sorts.
Arrive lake Manyara 107 km south of Arusha. A park that
includes a large lake, part of the Rift Valley.
325 km² of enchanting scenery, a place where truly . no one
can remain impervious to! One of my favourites.
